Mangaluru, Aug 7: St Joseph Engineering College - Mangaluru conducted PRIME-2024, an accelerated entrepreneurial experience activity from the June 22 to July 23, under the aegis of InnoVenture: SJEC Innovation Platform. The Demo Day of the activity was held on July 23 in the Kalam Auditorium of the campus. Gaurav Kamath, co-founder at MicroDegree and Dasharath Shetty, partner at Raj Clay Products, graced the occasion as guests.

PRIME-2024 was aimed at promoting the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship on the campus. In this activity, the college provided a non-refundable seed capital of Rs 500 to the registered teams of students to identify and develop a product/service and sell it to realize a profit. The only requirement of PRIME-2024 was that the product/service developed has to be sold. The month-long activity, witnessed the participation of 61 teams comprising 208 students from various disciplines of engineering, MBA, and MCA. The teams were allowed to keep both the seed capital and the profits generated from the business.

The Demo Day witnessed the exhibition of all the products and services that were developed and sold by the students. The exhibition also witnessed a considerable number of products being sold and bought by the visiting students and faculty. Nearly 80% of the teams were students from multiple disciplines sharing each other's knowledge and skills for betterment of the product.

From NFC integrated Singing Wall Posters and One-Touch Digital Business Cards by Team Whimsy to innovative LPG cylinder carriers, credit card-sized multi-utility scales, digital screen cleaners, coconut husk decors, auto LEDs, and 3D printed shoelace clips, the range of products were diverse and showed technical ingenuity and business value.

The key achievements of PRIME-2024 are:

1. Students have experienced the challenges involved in innovation and also tasted varied degrees of success in their efforts.
2. PRIME-2024 has helped InnoVenture identify a team of budding innovators and aspiring entrepreneurs whom the platform intends to mold and offer a kick-start to their dreams.
3. PRIME-2024 has been successful in breaking the stigma of profits and business endeavors. Students have realized the importance of wealth creation in nation building.
