Mangaluru: Drivers' union objects to DC order on electrical auto-rickshaw permits

Mangaluru, Aug 8: The Dakshina Kannada Auto-rickshaw Drivers’ Association has raised objections to an order by deputy commissioner (DC) Mullai Muhilan permitting auto-rickshaws powered by electricity, methanol, and ethanol to operate throughout the district.

Association President B Vishnumurthy and Chief Secretary Satish Kumar stated, “Allowing battery-operated auto-rickshaws across Dakshina Kannada district is causing conflicts between auto-rickshaw drivers. The DC should immediately withdraw this order. A meeting with RTA officials should be called to consider everyone’s opinions before making a decision. Otherwise, auto-rickshaw drivers will hold a protest. We have already contacted transport minister Ramalinga Reddy by phone, and he has assured us that suitable action will be taken.”
