Sullia, Aug 9: Puttur assistant commissioner (AC) Jubin Mohapatra visited Sampaje village on Thursday to assess the damage caused by recent rains.

The AC inspected areas prone to landslides, as well as roads and bridges that have been damaged due to the heavy rainfall. During the visit, gram panchayat president Sumati Shaktivelu submitted an appeal highlighting the issue with the Darkas hanging bridge on the Goonadka-Peradka road within the Sampaje gram panchayat limits. The appeal stated that the bridge sinks whenever the water level in the Payaswini river rises during the monsoon, posing a risk to the hundreds of students and members of the public who use it daily.

The bridge also connects several houses, a mosque, and a temple. The appeal requested the construction of a new bridge or an alternative road for transportation during the monsoon.

AC Mohapatra assured the gram panchayat president that he would bring the matter to the attention of his superiors and instructed the concerned officials to take necessary precautions in the meantime.
