Mangaluru: Mangala Institute of Nursing observes Breastfeeding Week

Mangaluru, Aug 9: New Mangala College of Nursing and Mangala School of Nursing observed breastfeeding week on August 7, with the theme ‘Closing the Gap: Breastfeeding – Support for all’. Chief guest Dr Sabitha Nayak, vice principal, nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences inaugurated the programme and delivered a guest lecture on the theme.

She brought an insightful awareness on emphasizing the ‘flipple’ method of breastfeeding by ensuring that the attendees could grasp the technique effectively. She was stressing the importance of proper breastfeeding techniques and concluded her session with a poignant message, ‘Bring the baby to the breast, not the breast to the baby'.

The programme was organized by the OBG (obstetrics and gynaecological nursing) department along with NSS unit of the college. Prof Subrahmanya Nayak, principal of New Mangala College of Nursing, Dr Marie Elizabeth Pinto, HOD of the OBG department, Manila Laveena D’Souza, asst Prof OBG department and coordinator of the programme and Naveen, NSS programme officer graced the occasion. The event witnessed the participation of 150 attendees, including staff and students.
