Udupi: Low consumer interest in union govt's Surya Ghar Project

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (MS)

Udupi, Aug 9: Household electricity consumers in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have shown little interest in the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana, a union government initiative aimed at increasing self-reliance in electricity usage. Out of 10,26,853 consumers in the twin districts, only 2,063 have expressed interest in the scheme.

The union government, in its budget for this year, introduced a scheme to install solar panels on the roofs of one crore houses, with a grant of Rs 10,000 crore. The project aims to provide 300 units of free electricity to households each month.

Within Mescom limits, covering Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru, and Shivamogga districts, 2,717 applications have been received, of which 2,329 have been approved. This will enable the implementation of 317 projects with a combined capacity of 1,344.33 KW. In Dakshina Kannada district, 1,138 out of 1,314 applications have been approved, with solar panel installations completed in 198 houses. In Udupi district, 658 out of 749 applications have been approved, with installations completed in 108 houses.

By connecting the rooftop solar system to the grid, consumers can avoid paying electricity bills for 25 years. The system requires no extra space as it is installed on the roof and has minimal maintenance costs. Subsidies are available: Rs 30,000 for a 1 KW system, Rs 60,000 for 2 KW, and Rs 78,000 for 3 KW and above.

Being in Green Energy field for over 25 years, I'm trying to make few facts clear: Many people are often confused about solar technology and its various options. There are multiple Solar PV technologies tailored for different applications, such as string inverter technology, American microinverter technology, and Israeli SolarEdge optimizer technology. It’s crucial to choose a dependable and effective solar solution based on your specific needs. Regarding subsidy from Govt., it's a direct payment to the customer and not to the vendor. While some may caution that vendors could take advantage of you, remember that the choice of vendor is ultimately yours. We want to emphasize that selecting the right vendor is critical, as they play a key role in ensuring the quality of installation and the overall performance of your solar system. With over 25 years of experience in the solar industry, we are pioneers in Solar PV system installations. If you seek clarity on the PM Suryaghar Yojana, the various global technologies available, or the benefits they offer, we are here to provide you with comprehensive and accurate information.

Maintenance cost is higher than installation charges. Most of houses are tiles not RCC. Even more most of people are in rented house. Simple logic.

Here in Canada even though there is Sun for few months some people install it. While it sounds nice and good the problem lies with its implementation. Companies don't tell anything properly Initial cost is high. Then they bind you to an agreement which is always in their favor making the deal useless to the consumer. Hope in India its different. I have heard a lot of positive experience of solar boilers in India hope its in the same level.

That subsidy dealer will get , 1kWA should cost around 40k (without subsidy) and -30k subsidy . Total cost 10k , hence dealer will fool you.

The lack of interest in this solar electricity project has a lot to do with its name. If it is Government of India project, why call it Pradhan Mantri scheme? Everything under the present Central Government is "Pradhan Mantri", the sole aim being the promotion of his image. After June 4, 2024, Modi's name will be a 'panauti' for any project. Call it just "India Solar project' and see the difference. We are sick of that person.
