Mangaluru, Aug 15: The 78th Independence Day was celebrated with immense patriotism and enthusiasm at St Ann's PU College. The stage was beautifully decorated in the colours of the national flag, and the atmosphere was charged with the spirit of freedom and unity.

The programme began with the arrival of the chief guest, Dr Edmond Fernandes, director of the Edward and Cynthia Institute of public health and chief coordinator of the department of public health at Yenepoya Deemed to be University and other dignitaries Sr Shamitha, the provincial superior, Sr Rose Agnes, assistant provincial superior, Sr Sudeepa, the secretary, Sr Smitha, the joint secretary, and the principal, Sr Rachana, were warmly received with a guard of honour.

The flag hoisting ceremony, was held with full solemnity and tradition.

The chief guest, Dr Edmond Fernandes, hoisted the national flag as everyone present stood in solemn reverence. The fluttering tricolour evoked deep emotions of patriotism, and a moment of silence was observed to honour the countless sacrifices made by those who fought for our nation's freedom.

After the flag hoisting, a prayer song was sung by the students invoking God's peace and blessings on our nation. The prayer added a serene and reflective tone to the proceedings, reminding everyone of the spiritual and moral responsibilities that come with freedom.

The principal, Sr Rachana, introduced the chief guest and extended a formal welcome to all present. Her words were filled with pride and affection, setting the stage for the rest of the programme. 

The chief guest, Dr. Edmond Fernandes, delivered an insightful speech on the true meaning of Independence Day. His words were both enlightening and inspiring, emphasizing the enduring values of freedom, courage, and the responsibilities that accompany independence.

The key highlights of the celebration was a patriotic song and a drama performed by the students, which depicted the struggles and sacrifices of the freedom fighters. The performance left the audience deeply moved and filled with pride for the nation’s history.

As the programme drew to a close, Jolita Lobo delivered the vote of thanks, expressing appreciation to all those who contributed to the success of the event. She acknowledged the efforts of the students, faculty, and staff in making the Independence Day celebration a memorable and meaningful occasion.
