Bantwal: Loretto English Medium High School celebrates 78th Independence Day

Bantwal, Aug 15: Loretto English Medium High School celebrated the 78th Independence Day with great patriotism and enthusiasm on Thursday, August 15. The event commenced with the arrival of esteemed guests, who were escorted by the school band, setting a ceremonial tone for the occasion.

The dignitaries present on the dais included Fr Dr Alfred Vincent Sequeira, assistant director of Diocesan Biblical Catechetical Liturgical Centre, the school principal, Fr Jason Vijay Monis, PTA vice-president Sachin Noronha, vice-president of the Parish Pastoral Council of Loretto Church, Sr Idoline Rodrigues, headmistress of Loretto Aided Kannada Medium School and school SPL, Sanvi Acharya.

The teachers performed a heartfelt rendition of the prayer song "Vande Mataram," filling the atmosphere with a sense of national pride. The welcome address was delivered by Joshil Prinston Pinto of Grade X.

The highlight of the event was the unfurling of the national flag by the chief guest and other dignitaries, followed by the singing of the National Anthem and the flag song. Sanvi Acharya from Grade X delivered an inspiring speech on the significance of the day.

Students from various grades showcased a cultural programme, adding to the festive spirit. The chief guest, Fr. Alfred, urged everyone to show their love for India not just by adoring its map or flag, but by respecting every individual. He encouraged all to live in freedom and work together to develop society.

Cyprian D'Souza represented the school correspondent in his absence during the Independence Day celebration. He posed the question, "What can I do for my country?" and emphasised the importance of remembering martyrs, adding that if parents fulfill their duties, their children will grow up to become patriotic, duty-bound citizens.

Sonam from Grade IX, who won the third place in the taluk-level chess competition and was selected for the district-level, along with the taluk-level karate winners, were honored on the occasion.

The physical education teacher, Padmanabha Mayya, led the gathering in a powerful slogan that further ignited the patriotic spirit.

A vote of thanks was extended by Babitha of Grade IX. The programme was anchored by Chinthana of Grade V, and the celebration concluded with the distribution of sweets to all.
