Udupi, Aug 16: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has announced that in protest against the recent assault on a medical student in Kolkata and the subsequent violence, the national body has directed the suspension of all services, except for emergency services, from 6 AM on Saturday, August 17, 2024, to 6 AM on Sunday, August 18.
In response, the members of the IMA Udupi-Karavali branch have informed that they will be closing their clinics and hospitals for 24 hours, excluding emergency services.
Additionally, condemning the recent incident in Kolkata and raising awareness among the general public regarding the safety of working women, the IMA Udupi Karavali, in collaboration with like-minded organizations, will be organizing a silent march on August 17. The march will take place from 6 PM to 7 PM, starting from Board High School in Udupi and ending at Jodukatte.
Menawhile, the office-bearers of IMA Udupi-Karavali met Udupi district commissioner Dr Vidyakumari, submitted a memorandum and also highlighted about the need for organizing the protest.
