Mangaluru, Aug 16: St Aloysius Higher Primary School joyfully celebrated the 78th Independence Day with great enthusiasm and patriotism. The event began with a grand welcome for the dignitaries, led by the school band, which marched in perfect synchrony, creating an atmosphere of pride and unity as they escorted the guests to the stage.
The programme commenced with a soulful rendition of the prayer song "Vande Matharam," setting a reverent tone for the occasion. The headmistress, Jositta Noronha, then led the dignitaries to the flagpole, where the chief guest, Kiran Sirsikar, had the honor of hoisting the National Flag.
The students of Class six skillfully conducted the programme. Laxminarayan, a student representative, warmly welcomed the chief guest, Kiran Sirsikar, who is currently the head reporter at News first Kannada, a leading news channel. Sirsikar, an alumnus of the institution, was previously the Bureau Head at ETV Kannada News Channel. As a token of appreciation, headmistress Jositta Noronha offered a sapling to Sirsikar, symbolizing growth and respect.
The school choir then performed a melodious patriotic song, "Saat Chale Hum, Saat Rahe Hum," which resonated with the spirit of unity and national pride. Following this, students Pearl Siyona, Zaima Mariam and Ethan Pinto delivered speeches highlighting the significance of the day reminding us of the sacrifices made by our forefathers for the freedom we enjoy today.
In his inspiring speech, the chief guest, Kiran Sirsikar, extended his heartfelt wishes to everyone for a ‘Happy Independence Day.’ He emphasized the importance of national integration and urged both parents and teachers to instill the values of love and respect for the nation in the young minds. He highlighted the need for children to be knowledgeable about Indian history and to develop a sense of patriotism.
Drawing a parallel to the recent Olympics, he encouraged the students to follow their dreams and strive to make India proud on the global stage. He also gave an insight on drug abuse.
The event also included the distribution of prizes to the winners of various competitions held in preparation for Independence Day, recognizing their efforts and achievements.
A graceful dance performance by the students, themed around patriotism, added a vibrant touch to the celebration, leaving the audience mesmerized.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Swetha, expressing gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the event. The entire event was seamlessly compered by Joen Sam, Jovia Moras, Sridevi and Ison Mathais, whose coordination and presentation skills were commendable.
