Daijiworld Media Network – Hassan (MS)

Hassan, Aug 16: Another landslide has struck the railway track between the Achangi and Doddasagara stretch in Sakleshpur taluk, disrupting the Yashwantpur-Karwar train service.

Just a week ago, a similar landslide occurred at the same location. After the mud was cleared and the track was repaired, another landslide has caused fresh disruptions.

The Yeshwantpur-Karwar Express has been stranded at Ballupete in Sakleshpur taluk for the past half hour, causing inconvenience to passengers. Railway staff have rushed to the scene to address the situation.

Earlier, on July 26, a landslide occurred between the Yedakumeri and Kadagaravalli stretch of the railway track, leading to the cancellation of 12 trains. The railway department worked at a rapid pace to restore the services, which were resumed on August 8. However, on August 10, another hill collapse on the railway track at Ballupete and Sakleshpur affected train services. Now, the Achangi-Doddasagara stretch has again been hit by a landslide, further disrupting train operations.

Unscientic shoddy jobs. Slopes are not properly built and protected. Most tracks on Konkan railway made cutting mountains has verical walls and no retaining wall. Such retaining walls may desire pile foundation considering present land slide trends. God save train commuters and their timely destinations.
