Sullia, Aug 19: The work of clearing mud that fell on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru railway track between Sakleshpur and Ballupete due to a landslide is progressing at a brisk pace.
On Friday, mud slid again at the same spot where a hill had collapsed a week ago, leading to the suspension of train services once more. The mud-clearing efforts have been ongoing for three days, with four to five Hitachi machines employed in the task. Mud is being removed from the top of the hill as well to prevent further landslides.
However, despite these efforts, mud continues to slide, filling the railway track with a mixture of mud and slime. Additionally, work on a retaining wall to prevent further collapses is in full swing.
Given the loose mud in this area, the situation remains challenging. Officials estimate that it will take several more days to restore the track to service.
