Panaji, Aug 19: A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped multiple times by a man in South Goa’s Colva village, sparking widespread outrage in the community.
Upon receiving the report, local police swiftly registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and other relevant laws, leading to the arrest of the accused.
According to a senior police official, the accused, identified as Devaraju Kaki from Telangana, was taken into custody on Saturday.
The arrest followed a complaint lodged by the victim’s teacher. Kaki faces charges under the Goa Children’s Act, the POCSO Act, and the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
Police reports indicate that the suspect allegedly assaulted the girl repeatedly in her home when her parents were absent.
Authorities have withheld further details about the crime, including the location and specifics of the investigation.
The accused has been remanded to police custody for five days, and further legal proceedings are ongoing.
