Mangaluru, Aug 25: The newly constructed railway goods shed at Ullal began operations on Saturday.

A goods train that departed from the Ultratech factory in Gooti town, Andhra Pradesh, on August 21, carrying 10 wagons of cement, arrived at the Ullal goods shed on August 24. This delivery generated an income of Rs 8,44,753 for the railway and marked a new milestone in the area's development.

The Ullal goods shed was developed by the Palakkad division of Southern Railways. Originally located at Mangaluru port, the goods shed was relocated to Ullal. It features a platform that is 650 meters long and 15 meters wide, with the capacity to accommodate 42 BCN wagons at a time.

The establishment of the goods shed at Ullal has created significant opportunities for the development of agriculture, industries, and basic infrastructure. Goods can now be transported from Ullal to Panambur, Baikampady, Maroli, and other areas where large warehouses are located. This shift is expected to reduce traffic congestion and pollution in the city. According to a publication by the Palakkad division, the goods shed will also play a crucial role in the economic development of Ullal.
