Mangaluru, Sep 1: In a swift operation, the Kankanady town police cracked a kidnapping case within two hours after a two-and-a-half-year-old child was abducted near the Botanical Garden of the Forest Department in Alape of Padil in city. The incident occurred on the evening of August 31.
The child, a girl, was reportedly walking in front of the Forest Department building when the accused, identified as Aneesh Kumar, abducted her. According to the police, Kumar, who had quarreled with his family in his hometown and left for Mumbai on August 28. He had boarded a train to Goa with a plan to catch a connecting train to Mumbai from there. He disembarked from the train in Goa but missed the connecting train to Mumbai. Instead of continuing his journey to Mumbai, he traveled to Mangaluru. Here upon seeing the girl alone, he kidnapped her, reportedly due to his desire to have a daughter. It is said that Aneesh harbored a disappointment that he did not have a daughter.
Upon receiving the complaint, the police swiftly registered a case and initiated an investigation. Information was obtained that the accused had boarded a train heading from Mangaluru Junction towards Kasargod. The Kankanady town police, under the guidance of PSI Shivakumar K, immediately informed the Kasargod Railway Police. The team quickly coordinated with the railway police, rushed to Kasargod, and successfully apprehended the accused. The kidnapped child was safely rescued and returned to her parents.
Aneesh Kumar, 49, hailing from Kandathil, Muthuvayal, Tatapilly, Paravur Post, Ernakulam District, Kerala, was later presented before the court, which has remanded him to judicial custody.
The operation was conducted under the leadership of Mangaluru city police commissioner Anupam Agarwal, with directives from Siddharth Goel, DCP (Crime and Traffic) Dinesh Kumar, and ACP (South division) Dhanya Nayak. The team from Kankanady Town Police Station, led by Inspector T D Nagaraj, included PSI Shivakumar, ASI Ashok, and officers Ashith D'Souza, Kushal Hegde, Raghavendra, and Pooja, who were instrumental in the quick resolution of the case.
