Teri Hatcher to take over as Miranda Priestly in West End musical

London, Sep 8: Hollywood actor Teri Hatcher is set to step into the iconic role of Miranda Priestly in the West End production of The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical, replacing Vanessa Williams from October 20.

The 61-year-old former Desperate Housewives star will relocate from Los Angeles to London for the role. Speaking during a HELLO! magazine photoshoot in Paris, Hatcher said she was excited to bring her personal experiences and growth to the character.

"I've experienced and grown so much, and I get to bring all of that into my Devil Wears Prada performance," Hatcher said. "I feel like this is a gift for me, to arrive into a Teri Hatcher that I haven't got to be yet, and I'm so excited for it."

Although Hatcher has not yet watched the London production, her 28-year-old daughter Emerson has seen Williams perform as Miranda at the Dominion Theatre and encouraged her mother to accept the role.

"She saw Vanessa in it and said it was great, so when the opportunity came my way she was the first person to say: 'Oh my god, you have to do it, you're going to have so much fun,'" Hatcher recalled.

A self-confessed fan of the original 2006 film and its sequel, Hatcher has already begun preparing for her West End debut. She has also been in contact with Williams and Matt Henry, who plays Miranda's colleague Nigel, ahead of taking over the role.

Hatcher is best known for her performances in Desperate Housewives and Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, but she also has experience in musical theatre. Her previous stage roles include Sally Bowles in the national tour of Sam Mendes' revival of Cabaret and Morticia Addams in The Addams Family.

Based on Lauren Weisberger's 2003 novel and the 2006 film, The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical follows journalist Andy Sachs as she lands a coveted job at Runway magazine and finds herself working under the demanding and formidable Miranda Priestly.

The musical features music by Elton John and is produced by Kevin McCollum, David Furnish and Jamie Wilson.

The production premiered at Theatre Royal Plymouth in summer 2024 before transferring to London's West End, where it opened at the Dominion Theatre in December 2024. It has since sold more than 1.2 million tickets and is scheduled to celebrate its 800th performance on September 23.

The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical is currently booking at the Dominion Theatre through September 25, 2027.
