Mangaluru, Sep 7: The air quality in Mangaluru, known for its greenery, has reached alarming levels of pollution, according to a Greenpeace research report.
The report warns that the air quality in Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Mangaluru has deteriorated to dangerous levels, posing significant health risks to residents if immediate measures are not taken to reduce pollution.
The Spare the Air – 2 report from Greenpeace India highlights that the concentrations of PM 2.5 (fine particulate matter) and PM 10 (coarse particulate matter), both harmful to human health, have exceeded the limits set by the WHO in 10 major cities across South India. This could result in serious health issues.
Compared to WHO standards, the level of PM 2.5 in five cities, including Mangaluru, is five to seven times higher, while the PM 10 levels in cities like Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Pondicherry are four to five times above the recommended limits, according to Greenpeace India.
Salomi Garnayak, a campaigner for Greenpeace India, stated that the increasing levels of PM 2.5 and PM 10 in our cities expose the harsh reality of air pollution.
Greenpeace India, a non-profit and eco-friendly organization, advocates for methods to reduce global warming and pollution through sustainable practices.
