Mangaluru, Aug 3: A 49-year-old MESCOM lineman died after suffering an electric shock while climbing a transformer that had not been isolated from the power supply at Uchil Nayapattna in Ullal taluk on Monday August 3.

The deceased has been identified as Sheikh Zameer (49), a resident of Ambika Road, Pillaru.

According to sources, MESCOM had received a complaint regarding a fault in a transformer at Uchil Nayapattna. Following the complaint, Sheikh Zameer and his colleague, Sangappa, visited the spot on Monday morning to carry out repair work.

Believing that the GOS (Group Operated Switch) had been switched off, Zameer climbed the transformer. However, the power supply had not been disconnected, and he suffered a severe electric shock, which threw him to the ground.

He was rushed to a private hospital in Deralakatte in a critical condition but succumbed to his injuries on the way.

The deceased is survived by his wife and a daughter.

Rita, before sending linemen to work on live powerlines....they must be trained well ....provided proper equipment....proper dress....proper communications equipment like radio sets.....they don't climb poles or towers any more in west...now they have trucks with hydraulic buckets....In my opinion Electricity Service providers provide none of these to their employees.....that's why these tragedies occur frequently....this must stop...sooner the better...Also we should teach our children in primary schools how to handle electricity safely.....Tak...Takk...

RIP B eleived supply had been switched off. Where i come from the procedure is called LOTO LOCK OFF TAG OFF and the key is with the actual person working. Result is not a single accident. MESCOM has a very casual approach to safety!!!
