Mangaluru, Sep 10: The Konkani Natak Sabha (KNS) celebrated a significant milestone with the premiere of their cinematic play, ‘Christachem Janan’, held at Bharath Cinema on Monday September 9. This event marks a notable expansion in KNS’ long-standing tradition of drama and cultural presentation.
The film was blessed by Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, bishop emeritus of the Mangaluru diocese. The premiere was graced by several distinguished guests including Fr Andrew D’Souza, parish priest of Bajal church, Fr Denis D’Sa, PRO of the Udupi diocese, Stany Alvares, president of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, Santhosh Sequeira of Santhosh Arrangers, and Anil Lobo, chairman of MCC Bank Ltd.
In his address, Bishop D’Souza praised KNS for its enduring commitment to the arts and evangelization. “KNS stands out as a prime organization in the realm of drama and related fields. With an 80-year history, it reflects a legacy of consistency and dedication to art and culture,” he said. He further commended the organization’s new venture into cinematic plays, emphasizing the significance of visual media in today’s tech-driven world.
Fr Denis D’Sa also shared his enthusiasm about the project, noting the impact of media in contemporary life. “In an era dominated by artificial intelligence and media influence, KNS’ foray into cinematic art is both timely and commendable. It aligns with the broader acceptance of media within the Church, as even Pope Francis has acknowledged its role,” he stated.
Fr Rocky D’Cunha, OFM, who welcomed attendees, highlighted the development journey of ‘Christachem Janan’ and expressed gratitude towards those involved in its creation. Liston Derrick D’Souza, vice president of KNS, extended a warm welcome to the guests with bouquets.
The event also featured notable figures from the production team including director Dolla Mangaluru, director Melwyn D'Almeida, screenplay writer Joel Pereira, and music arranger Cletus Lobo. KNS officials Jerald Concesso, treasurer, and Cletus Lobo, joint secretary, were also present on the dais.
Floyd D'Mello Cascia delivered the vote of thanks, while Preetham Noronha masterfully compered the event.
The premiere of ‘Christachem Janan’ not only marks a new chapter for KNS but also sets a precedent for the integration of traditional dramatic arts with modern cinematic techniques.

The cast delivers performances that bring the story to life, their portrayals feeling vivid and engaging. The background music, composed and mixed by Loy Valentine, is another highlight. His expertise in using keys and 5.1 mixing infuses each frame with emotional depth, enhancing the overall experience.
‘Christachem Janan’ marks Dolla Mangaluru’s debut as an independent director, with Mellu Valencia as an director. Their dedication and hard work are evident in the film’s polished execution. Joel Pereira, known for his experience in handling music and dialogues, brings a seamless integration of both elements, enriching the film’s narrative flow.
Overall, ‘Christachem Janan’ is a visual and auditory feast, presenting a familiar religious story with fresh, engaging artistry. Its blend of detailed set design, strong performances, and a powerful musical score makes it a noteworthy entry in the realm of faith-based cinema.
