Ontario, Sep 12: The annual Monthi Fest celebration in the Greater Toronto Area was hosted by the Konkan Organization of Toronto (KOT) on September 7 and was met with resounding success. The programme saw the participation of nearly 300 people from the growing and vibrant Konkan community in the region, particularly from the East-Toronto area of Ontario, Canada.
The programme began with a large procession, during which flowers were showered, and hymns were sung along the route to the Nativity of the Blessed Mother Mary at St Thomas the Apostle Church, Markham, Ontario. The procession was followed by the Holy Mass, celebrated by Fr Roshan D’Souza as the officiant, with Deacon Terence Rebello assisting Fr Roshan to ensure the smooth conduct of the services. The sermon and theme served as a reminder of the love and devotion that Mother Mary demonstrated towards her son, Jesus, and how one can emulate her nature by sharing love, mercy, and service.
A get-together was organized following the Mass at J & J Swagat Convention Centre, Markham, Ontario. The event began with the blessing of the Novem, followed by a lineup of songs and dances as part of the cultural program. The gathering was welcomed by the children singing a welcome song. Melwyn Sequeira, the president of KOT, then officially welcomed everyone.
KOT also recognized the academic achievements of local students through the sponsorship of Dr Carol Castelino. Malaika DeSylva and Gavin Pinto, who were awarded scholarships for their outstanding performance. Dr Carol was commended for her continued support of the community's young talent.
The Konkan community came together as a family to participate in the Monthi Fest celebrations. With food, entertainment, and many games and prizes, all guests had the opportunity to reconnect and celebrate the festival together. One of the most heartwarming aspects of the event was the active participation of young children. The youngsters showcased their talents through singing, dancing, and other cultural performances, demonstrating the community's commitment to preserving Konkan traditions for future generations.
The cultural program featured a variety of performances, including the hymn 'Maria Mai Kurpechi', sung by children aged 4 to 10, followed by traditional Konkan folk dances. The talented performers captivated the audience with their skills and passion. The celebration wrapped up with a delicious meal, providing a perfect end to a memorable evening filled with joy and community spirit.
