Udupi, Sep 14: Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, bishop of the diocese of Udupi, emphasised the need for teachers to evolve with the changing educational landscape, embracing their profession with love, pride, and self-confidence. He made these remarks during the decennial celebration of the Catholic Educational Society of the Udupi Diocese and Teachers' Day, held at the St Mary's English Medium School auditorium in Kannarpady on Saturday, September 14.

Bishop Lobo highlighted the importance of adapting to new innovations in education and the necessity of training programs to equip educators with the skills required to stay ahead in this evolving field.

Msgr Ferdinand Gonsalves, vicar general of the diocese of Udupi, presided over the event and remarked that education goes beyond merely imparting information; it is about shaping lives harmoniously. He noted, "While the roots of education may be bitter, the fruits are sweet," and encouraged teachers to serve as exemplary role models by guiding students to become responsible citizens.

The celebration featured the launch of a new website for the Catholic Educational Society and the release of a decennial souvenir. Various educators, including retired teachers, PhD holders, award-winning teachers, and high-achieving students were honored. Institutions with a 100% pass rate were also recognized, and members of both the previous and current administrative boards were felicitated. Milagres Degree College received special commendation for earning an A+ grade from NAAC.

Key dignitaries included Cyprian Montiero, director of the office of the commissioner for primary education; Dr Fr Leo Praveen Lasrado, secretary of the Catholic Board of Education, Mangaluru; Maruthi, deputy director of the District Pre-University education department; and Ganapathi K, deputy director of the school education department.

Other notable attendees were Fr Anthony Shera, former secretary of the Catholic Education Board; Fr Charles Menezes, correspondent of St Mary’s English Medium School, Kannarpady; and Fr Vijay D’Souza, principal of St Mary’s English Medium School, Kannarpady.

Fr Charles Menezes welcomed the gathering, while Fr Vincent Crasta, secretary of the Catholic Educational Society, delivered the vote of thanks. The event was hosted by teachers Shruthi, Amrutha Shetty, Geetha, and Sibyl Soans.
