Bantwal: Over 18,000 people form 'human chain' to mark 'International Democracy Day'

Bantwal, Sep 15: In a vibrant display of civic engagement, over 18,000 people came together to form a massive 'human chain' from Farangipete to Mitturu and Kabaka on Sunday, September 15, celebrating "International Democracy Day". This event, organised under the state government directives, highlighted the community’s commitment to democratic values and unity.

The celebration began with the singing of the national anthem, followed by messages from key dignitaries and the reading of the Preamble to the Constitution. Participants then joined hands to create the human chain.

Held under the B C Road flyover, the event featured remarks by Bantwal Municipal president B Vasu Poovachari, who emphasised, “It is our duty to protect democracy and raise awareness about it.”

Former minister B Ramanath Rai and BUDA chairman Baby Kunder also addressed the crowd on behalf of the public. The gathering was attended by Bantwal Tahsildar D Archana Bhatt, taluk panchayat executive officer Sachin Kumar, and social welfare officer Jayashree, among other officials from various departments.

Local voluntary organisations, leaders from different groups, government employees, public organisations, teachers, students, and many others involved in community service participated in the human chain. Banners and placards were displayed throughout the event.
