Udupi, Sep 23: Mescom has cut off the power supply to a tourist bungalow located at Brahmagiri in the city due to the non-payment of an electricity bill amounting to over Rs 3 lac, which had been pending for one year.
Mescom officials stated that despite repeated reminders, the authorities of the tourist bungalow did not respond, leading to the disconnection of the power supply.
The tourist bungalow is frequently used by politicians and officials from various departments when they visit the city and district. The in-charge minister has also stayed there multiple times, and various press conferences are held at the facility.
In a tweet on his X account, MLA Yashpal Suvarna addressed chief minister Siddaramaiah, stating, "Mescom officials have cut off the power supply of the Udupi tourist bungalow for non-payment of electricity bills. Mescom has also issued notices to the Padubidri gram panchayat office and the Tenkanidiyoor government school. The government does not have the money to pay the electricity bills of its offices. This is the clearest example of the state's financial insolvency."
Deputy commissioner Dr. Vidya Kumar commented, "The bill might have been pending due to delays in the release of funds by the state government. I am not aware of the power cut-off, but as soon as funds are sanctioned, necessary action will be taken to settle the pending electricity bill."
