Udupi, Sep 25: Dr Sushil Jathanna, Director of CSI Lombard Memorial (Mission) Hospital, Udupi, was honored with the prestigious Milestone Global Award and the IHW Global Leaders Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to healthcare services.
The Milestone Global Award, along with a gold medal and a certificate of excellence for the hospital, was presented to Dr Jathanna on September 14 at the Milestone Global Awards and Conclave-2024 ceremony held at the Bahi Ajman Palace Hotel in Ajman, United Arab Emirates. The award was conferred by Emirati businessman and philanthropist Dr Bu Abdullah.
On September 21, Dr Jathanna was also presented with the IHW Global Leaders Award during the 10th Integrated Health and Wellness (IHW) Summit held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dubai. The award was presented by Dr Harsh Vardhan, former union health and environment minister, and Amruta Fadnavis, singer, social activist, and wife of Maharashtra's former chief minister and current deputy chief minister, Devendra Fadnavis.
Dr Jathanna played a pivotal role in revitalizing the Lombard Memorial Hospital, Udupi one of the oldest hospitals in the coastal region, founded in 1923 by Swiss missionary Dr Eva Lombard. Today, the hospital has grown into a 150-bed multi-specialty facility offering high-quality healthcare services.
Born in Mangaluru, Dr Jathanna completed his MBBS from Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, in 1982. He pursued postgraduate studies in Internal Medicine, Public Health, Health Policy, and Management abroad. With over 32 years of experience in the medical and public health fields, he has served extensively in England. Notably, he was the first Indian to serve as the chief executive officer of the National Health Service (NHS) in Cambridge and previously served as the managing director of the Healthcare Division at Care UK Plc.
Dr Jathanna has also held prominent positions such as the president of the Karnataka Chapter of the Association of Healthcare Providers of India and a member of the Karnataka State Hospital Board of the Indian Medical Association. He is a trustee of the Christian Medical Association of India and a member of the Executive Board of Christian Medical College, Vellore.
