Udupi, Sep 26: “The communication between bank managers and staff with the general public in the local Kannada language will further enhance banking relations,” stated Pratheek Bayal, zilla panchayath CEO, while presiding over the District lead bank progress review meeting held at the Dr V S Acharya Hall in Manipal.
Pratheek Bayal emphasized the need for nationalized banks to display their names and locations in regional languages on their boards and also urged banks to appoint local individuals to facilitate communication with customers.
In a bid to improve the standard of living for the public, several schemes are currently being implemented. The bank officials and related department representatives should create awareness among the general public about business activities, thus enabling more people to benefit from these schemes.
In the previous financial year, the banks in the district recorded transactions amounting to Rs 52.6 crore. This year, the transactions have increased to Rs 58.3 crore, reflecting a growth of Rs 5.6 crore, resulting in 10.78 percent growth. Bayal encouraged officials to work as a team to make Udupi district a model for the state in terms of economy.
The district has disbursed loans of Rs 2703.09 crore to priority sectors, achieving a growth of 30.74 percent, and Rs 1677.82 crore to non-priority sectors, with a growth of 43.65 percent.
Sheba Sahajan, the regional manager of Canara Bank, noted that the deposit ratio for the bank has decreased from 46.94 percent last year to 46.92 percent this year, marking a slight decline of 0.02 percent. The district's credit-deposit (C D) ratio was below 50 percent and stressed that all banks must take action to improve this in the future.
The meeting was attended by District lead bank manager Harish G, RBI executive Ila Sahu, NABARD DDM Sangeeta Kartha, SCDCC bank assistant general manager Rajesh Shetty, and others.
