Mumbai, Sep 29: “I am not someone who has written many poems, but I have experienced many through listening. Such anthologies and poetry collections should flourish more. Living life solely through mobile phones is not ideal. Instead, we must develop a consciousness that fosters the creation of literature. It is only when we read a language in our mother tongue that we can truly understand its simplicity, experience, taste, and essence. The influence of the mother tongue is paramount, and through it, we can build our lives,” said poet and retired teacher Amaresh Patil.
Amaresh was speaking after releasing the short story collection Koranvanji, authored by Dr Dakshayini Yadahalli and published by Srujana at a poetry and literary review event held by the Srujana Women Writers’ Forum, Mumbai, on Saturday evening at the Mysore Association mini auditorium in Matunga East.
In a programme presided over by Srujana coordinator Padmaja Mannur, poet and teacher Dr Durgaappa Kotiyavar reviewed the poems and remarked, “Poetry never emerges suddenly; it is a form of penance. The women poets of Mumbai are constantly fueled by curiosity and actively engaged in the craft of poetry, which is commendable. The Kannadiga women of Mumbai have beautifully composed poetry.”
Padmaja Mannur, in her presidential address, shared, "Recently, we hosted a women's portrayal in literature programme across four languagesKannada, English, Marathi, and Hindi—where we discussed Kannada literature. The discussions today by Durgaappa and the poems recited by the women poets align with the topics we have documented."
Senior writer and Rajyotsava awardee Dr Sunitha M Shetty, Srujana honorary secretary Latha Santosh Shetty of Mudumane, and treasurer Saroja Amati were present on the dais. Several office bearers and members of the Srujana team were also in attendance.
Saroja Amati led the prayer and introduced the guests. Padmaja Mannur welcomed the gathering, while Dr Dakshayini Yadahalli gave the introductory address. Poet Gayathri Nagesh introduced the newly launched book. Around 20 women poets from the Srujana group presented their poetry. Latha Santosh Shetty anchored the programme, and Shobha Shetty delivered the vote of thanks.
