Mangaluru, Oct 1: Sukhwinder Singh Rathour, vice president of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) Dakshina Kannada (DK), submitted a memorandum to Speaker U T Khader on Tuesday, requesting the declaration of a holiday in Karnataka to commemorate Guru Nanak Dev Ji Jayanti.

In the memorandum, Rathour emphasized the significance of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and his teachings, noting that many families in Karnataka and across the globe celebrate this auspicious occasion, known as Guru Purab. He pointed out that while other states have declared a holiday for this day, Karnataka has yet to do so.

“Given the large number of Sikhs and followers of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teachings residing in Karnataka, it is crucial to recognize this day by declaring a public holiday,” Rathour stated in his request. He urged the government to take immediate action to honour this important celebration within the state.
