Agrentinian Filmmaker Wants Bachchan to Play Tagore

Panaji, Nov 28 (IANS): If Argentinian filmmaker Pablo Cesar has his way, Amitabh Bachchan may soon play Bengal's literary giant Rabindranath Tagore in a film.

Cesar, whose film "Shores" is being screened at the 42nd International Film festival of India (IFFI), said that he wanted Bachchan to play the artistic genius in his next film.

"I am in the process of casting for the film. I want Amitabh Bachchan for the role of Tagore," said Pablo, who was part of the IFFI jury in 2007.

Pablo said that a part of the film would touch the association of Tagore with Victoria Ocampo, a well-known Argentinian writer. Pablo said that he wanted the right person to transform Tagore on screen and that he would keep in mind the sensibilities of Indians, vis a vis his portrayal of Tagore.

"I am trying to keep it real. The film will be shot in Bengal, near Shantiniketan and will be in Bengali. Tagore's interactions with Victoria Ocampo will be in Spanish," Cesar said, adding that he will approach Bachchan for the role.
