Udupi, Oct 13: Tourist spots in Udupi, particularly Malpe beach and St Mary's Island, have been overwhelmed with crowds due to extended holidays for schools and colleges during Navaratri, along with holidays for Vijayadashami, the second Saturday, and Sunday.
In the past three days, a large number of tourists have flocked to these destinations, with Friday and Saturday seeing the highest turnout. Tourist vehicles began arriving at Malpe beach as early as 6 am, leading to a severe parking shortage. Vehicles were parked along the main beach roads and even on the interlock road near Shivapanchakshari Bhajana Mandir and Hanuman Vitoba Bajana Mandir.
Tourists also struggled with a shortage of lodging and homestays, with many accommodations booked months in advance. Those without prior bookings were seen searching for rooms in hotels and lodges.
Traffic congestion peaked on the Malpe-Adi Udupi road on Friday and Saturday, causing difficulties for local residents going about their daily routines.
Despite the weather turning from bright sunshine to drizzle around noon on Saturday, the influx of tourists to Malpe beach remained steady. Many visitors enjoyed the beach without umbrellas, while others ventured into the water, relishing the beauty of the Arabian Sea.
