Mangaluru, Oct 13: In a vibrant celebration of literature, renowned Konkani writer Kishoo Barkur praised Edwin J F D'Souza for his innovative contributions to the genre during the event ‘Through My Window’, held at Don Bosco Hall. The programme was jointly organized by Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, and the Konkani Natak Sabha.
Barkur emphasized D'Souza's unique narrative style, which merges scientific observation with storytelling. "When he began writing his novels and short stories, a new era of Konkani literature emerged. Edwin’s characters frequently grapple with conflicts and revolts, reflecting deeper societal issues within the Konkani-speaking community," he stated..
Reflecting on his personal connection with Edwin, Barkur shared, "I had a close bond with Edwin and his family. They often visited us in Barkur. For every topic, Edwin had a distinct narrative and explanation." He noted Edwin's passion for cinema, suggesting that many of his literary works could easily translate into compelling films.
Barkur also highlighted Edwins's commitment to addressing pressing community issues through his writing, asserting that he is a true renaissance writer for the Konkani literature scene.
The event commenced with introductory remarks by Melvyn Rodrigues, convenor of Konkani Sahitya Akademi, who outlined the format of the programme. Liston D'Souza, vice president of the Konkani Natak Sabha, expressed pride in hosting the academic gathering, while H M Pernal, a member of the Advisory Board of Sahitya Akademi, introduced the featured speaker.
Before the engaging discussion on the life and works of Edwin J F D'Souza, a heartfelt floral tribute was paid to the late writer, honouring his enduring impact on Konkani literature. Jane D'Souza, Edwin's wife, graced the dais, adding a personal touch to the proceedings.
The programme attracted a large audience of literary enthusiasts and family members, all gathered to celebrate D'Souza's legacy. Stany Bela served as the event's moderator, guiding the attendees through the programme.
