Lucknow, Dec 1 (IANS) Bollywood star Salman Khan, his bodyguard and five others have been booked for assaulting a social activist during a promotion of a movie in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur district in August this year, police said Wednesday.
A case against Salman, his bodyguard Shera and five unidentified people was registered at the Kakadev police station Tuesday.
"The FIR (First Information Report) has been lodged on directions of a local court. According to the complainant Bharat, an ex IITian, he was roughed up by Khan's bodyguard Shera and other security personnel after he approached the Bollywood actor to present him a cap," police Inspector Bhupendra Singh Rathi told reporters in Kanpur, some 80 km from Lucknow.
Though Bharat, who runs an NGO, had approached the police at the time of incident, no case was registered.
"The FIR has been registered under various sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 147 (rioting), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace)," said Rathi.
