Udupi, Oct 15: A photo of a currency note on which a youth scribbled a message to a girl has gone viral on social media. The note was found at a general store in the city.
The message, written on an Rs 20 currency note, reads ‘Anjali Yake College Barlilla’ (Why didn’t Anjali come to college?). It appears the youth attempted to send the message to the girl, but the note ended up in the store, leading to its circulation on social media.
Netizens are calling for strict action against the youth for defacing the currency note. According to the law, writing on or defiling currency notes is a legal offense.
The currency note was received by a customer as change. Many shopkeepers refuse such notes as defacement reduces their longevity. The RBI allows torn or defaced notes to be exchanged at banks.
