Kasargod: Tragic boat accident claims one life, 1 missing; 35 rescued

Kasargod, Oct 16: A fishing boat capsized off Padanna Ayithala, resulting in one death and one person missing, while 35 others were successfully rescued.

The vessel, en route from Valya Paramba, encountered difficulties, with preliminary reports indicating 37 people were on board — mostly fishermen from Kerala and Odisha.

The victim has been identified as 58-year-old Abubakar from Parappanangadi. The accident occurred on Wednesday, October 16, in the afternoon.

Search operations continue for the missing individual.

District officials, including Deputy Commissioner K Impa Shekhar and Kannur DIG Rajpal Meena, visited the scene alongside local MLA M Rajgopal and municipal president T V Shanta.

Coastal police and local fishermen played crucial roles in the rescue, with sub-inspector and diving expert Saifuddin leading the efforts.
