MLC Ivan D'Souza confident of Congress victory in by-election, criticises BJP

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi

Udupi, Oct 19: MLC Ivan D'Souza confidently declared that Congress candidate Raju Poojary will secure a decisive victory in the upcoming bye-election, emphasising broad voter support across party lines.

D'Souza stated, "The BJP candidate lacks the necessary experience, while Raju Poojary has the skills to bring in grants and effectively serve our constituency. His tenure as zilla panchayat president gives him a strong grasp of local administration."

He criticised the BJP for being out of touch with voters, saying, "Voters have now decided to back our candidate due to his proven administrative track record. The BJP candidate is merely a party worker with no prior political experience. The successful implementation of the state government's five guarantees will be crucial for our win."

D'Souza also asserted that the electorate will deliver a strong message to the BJP in this election, accusing them of being envious of Congress's efforts to support the needy. He raised concerns about the deletion of Below Poverty Line (BPL) cards, questioning MP Kota Srinivas Poojary’s stance on granting these benefits to affluent families. "Does he advocate for BPL cards for the wealthy? If so, he should bring a resolution for discussion," he challenged.

Joining him at the press conference were bye-election candidate Raju Poojary, district Congress president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, former MP Jayaprakash Hegde, and other prominent party leaders, signaling a united campaign front.
