Udupi, Sep 10: “Karnataka Congress will stage satyagraha, silent march and dharnas in all 41 districts of the state condemning the untouchability practice followed against AICC national president Mallikarjun Kharge in Uttarakhand state by the state BJP,” said Vinay Kumar Sorake, state president of KPCC Campaign committee herein Udupi on Thursday Sept 10.

Addressing the media briefing he said, “With this act of purifying the place where AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge attended the program, we have proven to be moving back to 18 th century practices. It is a very shameful act done by the Uttarakhand BJP leaders. Even more many of the BJP leaders have even justified the act. Practicing untouchability is a offense under SC/ST act but still no FIR and legal action was taken against those who committed the crime. Instead, the BJP filed an FIR against Rahul Gandhi for questioning the stand of the central government on the issue.

"In the BJP ruling the culprits are roaming free and the police are locked inside. BJP is systematically deviating the SC/ST act and its provisions. Mallikarjun Kharge is a national leader of the Congress party and also the opposition leader in Rajya Sabha. He has a very long political career and has handled various portfolios. This is an insult done to the nation. It is also an insult to the constitution. BJP is trying to reintroduce Manusmirthi in this nation. Rahul Gandhi demanded an FIR under article 17 of the constitution, he is the shadow prime minister of the nation. KPCC campaign committee has decided to organize state wide protests condemning the incident and it will be followed in all the district," he said.

Harish Kini, president of Udupi district congress campaign committee said, “On Sept 12 Udupi district congress will organize a satyagraha in Gandhi statue in Ajjarkad and will also be holding the “Gandhi Smrithi” programme. The atrocities on SC/ST communities have drastically increased under the BJP rule. Why does the culprits in Uttarakhand case not been arrested yet? Rahul Gandhi questioned on the basis of Article 17 of the constitution. Is being by the side of constitution an offence under BJP rule? Will the Prime Minister Narendra Modi ask an unconditional apology to the downtrodden class for this act?” questioned Kini.

Udupi district Congress president Kishan Hegde Kolkebailu and others were present on the occasion.
