Udupi, Oct 19: MLC Ivan D'Souza has condemned the recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids, claiming the agency is overstepping its bounds and engaging in politically motivated actions against opposition parties.
D'Souza challenged the need for the ED's involvement in the MUDA case, pointing out that the Lokayukta is already investigating under court orders. "What business does the ED have here? They’re acting beyond their mandate, seemingly following BJP directives to tarnish the state's reputation," he asserted.
Addressing BJP leader Shobha Karandlaje’s accusations about burned MUDA files, he stated, "It's like blaming the courtyard when one can't dance. Karandlaje's allegations are baseless and lack factual support. All records have been reviewed, and her claim that documents were transported is a lie." He dared her to provide evidence for her claims.
D'Souza also weighed in on the ticket scam involving Union Minister Prahlad Joshi's brother, calling for a thorough investigation. "Those guilty should face consequences. Joshi claims he hasn't spoken to his brother in 30 years—revealing internal turmoil within the BJP," he noted.
In response to the BJP's criticism of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's decision to return a land site, he urged them to follow his example. He recalled how former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah addressed allegations regarding a Hublot watch and stressed the importance of transparency.
Defending Siddaramaiah, D'Souza emphasised his backing from 136 MLAs, stating, "Why is the ED raiding when the judiciary has already ruled in favor of Siddaramaiah and others? Continuing these investigations is unnecessary."
He concluded by accusing the BJP of wielding the ED as a tool for political vendettas, selectively targeting opposition leaders while ignoring their own party's issues.
