Sullia/Madikeri, Oct 20: The Kodagu district sessions court has sentenced Hariprasad and Jayan to life imprisonment for their involvement in the murder of BJP chief secretary and former Sampaje gram panchayat president, Balachandra Kalagi, by ramming a vehicle into the Omni van he was driving.
Kalagi was killed on March 19, 2019, when a truck deliberately crashed into his Omni. The Madikeri police arrested Sampath, Hariprasad, and Jayan in connection with the crime. Sampath, however, was murdered in Sullia’s Shantinagara while out on bail. On October 16, the Kodagu court found the accusations against the remaining two accused to be proven and reserved the sentencing for October 19.
The court has now sentenced both Hariprasad and Jayan to life imprisonment.
