Mangaluru: Christy Crasta, soon-to-be married, dies in scooter-tipper collision near Nanthoor

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Oct 20: In a tragic incident on Sunday evening, October 20, a young woman lost her life after a tipper truck collided with her scooter near Shanti Kiran, close to Nanthoor Circle.

The deceased has been identified as Christy Crasta (27), a resident of Kodikal. She was the daughter of Cyril and Sandra Crasta of Vailankanni Ward, Kodikal. Christy was riding her scooter from Nanthoor Circle towards Pumpwell when a fish-laden container truck, coming from behind, crashed into her vehicle. Due to the driver's recklessness and overspeeding, the truck hit Christy's scooter, and she was tragically caught under the rear wheels, dying on the spot.

Christy's wedding was scheduled for November 23. She was a teacher by profession.

The funeral rites of Christy Crasta will be held on Monday October 21 at St Dominic Church, Ashoknagar (3:30 pm - Prayers at Home, 3:45 - 4:00 pm - Public Viewing, 4:00 pm - Holy Eucharistic Celebration followed by burial at Urwa church cemetery).

It's now high time since it's better to remove the Nanthoor Circle at the junction and place a pillar-based 4-side LED signal with a timer, road markings and pedestrian crossing, and activate the signals immediately. Besides this, fix the road potholes and level up the road with highway-type tarr (damar) and at night time, this junction should be well-lit. Additionally, Traffic police should be physically available 24/7 weekdays and weekends to monitor the traffic situation. Those who do not obey or lose patience should be given hefty fines and cease their license. Another way is also to have strict timings for the trucks, tippers etc - At least try to get in this new plan, if it works great.!

Tragic accident and many lives have been lost by accidents on daily basis in Mangalore & Udupi districts. These precious lives could have been saved with safe roads, traffic rules been followed by drivers and implemented by traffic police. Heavy vehicles specially trucks, tippers, buses rash driving is the main cause of traffic accidents. There is absolutely no care for human lives these days, as everyone is rushing for their destinations! Traffic police must strictly implement safety signs, speed brakers, lane driving, mobile users while driving, drunk driving etc. to save lives.

What a tragedy and its really very disturbing to learn such young lady Ms. Christy loosing her life due to the reckless driving of a irresponsible truck driver, what would be the action taken by the traffic department for this negligence driving costing the life of a beloved daughter of her parents, who was soon to be married and on the verge of living a married life, but met her grave, this is unacceptable. Strict action to be taken by responsible officials, which would be a lesson for all the reckless drivers. My heart goes out to the parents for their precious loss, may god grant them the strength to bear the pain of loosing a child who they had raised and where waiting for her big day next month. Heartfelt condolences to Mr & Mrs Crasta and May Christy's soul rest in eternal peace. There is definitely need for discipline for all drivers and strict punishment for reckless driving not only at "Nanthoor Junction but on all roads, only charging a fine and let go will not do, cancellation of the drivers license, driving ban, with immediate effect along with long term imprisonment has to be implemented, otherwise this death trail will continue. Fixing of this Nanthoor junction issue is a priority to avoid further deaths as this spot is seriously a death trap, drivers just ignore the rules and rush in a hurry to surpass the traffic on street. Traffic officials on duty needs to take immediate action and confiscate the license of any reckless drivers for a certain period so they cannot drive. Definitely not acceptable if some one looses their life by the irresponsible driving of others and this is as good as murder, killing with the help of a vehicle running over a delicate body, cant digest !

It is very sad to hear the news of a young girl death. Only the grief can be felt by the parents and loved ones we may not understand the real pain. Who is the cause for such things i blame the police first. To see the reckless drive just go and stand near Nathoor or KPT ( be careful of yourself first). You will witness the chaos caused by the vehicle and the traffic police never bother about it. other day one lady police personal was seated in the bus and the bus driver was overtaking from left amidst the traffic jam near nanthoor. take a serious action on such drivers and seize the vehicles and save the innocent lives.

This is clearly due to the recklessness of the driver. for all you know he will be left scot-free to commit more such crimes. For many drivers women drivers/riders are playthings. Our politicians and civic bodies are busy taking honours or bickering among themselves. For a few days we all talk about it, and then all is forgotten until another one of us is lost. As these untimely deaths effect each and everyone of us. I appeal to the leadership in the community to come forward to find out the how we could make out city safe. We should ALL join in together to follow the rules, Stop aggressive driving, and learn to share the road. The onus is on us to do all "What it takes" to make our roads safe for one and all.

We have to blame police in all these cases. They don't take action on reckless driving of lorries, buses or even cars. In lane road they allow people to drive in opposite side, cause inconvenience and danger to others. Instead of checking driving licence or pollution, strict fines should be levied on those who violate traffic rules. Fine is the only method to control. RIP sister.😔

As long as the consequences for such carelessness is negligible in our country, there will be many such incidents. I have seen many buses, trucks, tippers come and stop very close behind other vehicles. Almost touching the vehicle in the front. The attitude and ego of the drivers is sky high. The punishment must be very severe and errant drivers license should be suspended or disqualified. If this doesn't happen, these incidents will become rampant. Our country has a big population and the government is not bothered about a few hundred deaths on the road daily. It is just the family that goes through the trauma.

Redesign Nanthoor Circle Before More Lives Are Lost Nanthoor Circle in Mangalore has tragically become a regular spot for accidents, owing to its flawed design. With roads from four directions converging at a single point and no traffic signal in place, the area has become a death trap for unsuspecting motorists. The steep landscape, coupled with reckless speeding, only exacerbates the situation, causing vehicles to lose control. Over the years, this dangerous junction has claimed numerous lives, and the situation continues to worsen with alarming frequency. It is deeply concerning that despite the clear risk to public safety, no significant action has been taken. How many more accidents, injuries, and deaths will it take for the concerned authorities to act? It is high time that the local administration addresses this issue urgently. Implementing traffic signals or a roundabout isn’t enough—there must be a complete redesign of Nanthoor Circle to prioritize safety. The cost of inaction is simply too high. Lives are at stake. We need solutions now.

Reckless drivers must be held accountable, punished and deprived of their licence for next 10 years. Very sad that a young talented girl is lost. Heartfelt condolences to family and especially her parents. Fr. Rudolf ocd

“Father, many lives have been lost there, and no one attempts to fix this junction. Governments come and go, but everyone thinks only of themselves, and innocent lives continue to be lost. Truck, trailer, and lorry drivers drive recklessly, without any regard for the smaller two-wheeler drivers. Therefore, two-wheeler drivers should be cautious and drive carefully, and avoid this junction as much as possible by taking other routes. But the one who gives life, God, knows more than all of us. The lack of action and the loss of lives is truly heart-wrenching. "

Walter Sir. Media is one of the pillars of democracy. All the smart city find is gulped by the powerful people and just to eyewash people some beautiful light posts and footpaths are made. There is nothing smart about the city. One more life is lost. People will forget this and then wake up from slumber for a few minutes only when next precious life is lost. Media should fight. Media should investigate and tell the people where the smart city fund is wasted.

OK, nobody can assure life as well as death. But is it acceptable if your obituary reads "Due to the driver's recklessness and over speeding, the truck hit Christy's scooter, and she was tragically caught under the rear wheels, dying on the spot.". And by the way, it is not happening once, first time or the last time. Distribution of DL to every sundry who can vote and can potentially vote and that being the only criteria is the reason. Try reconciling with this end if you are parent, sibling or if married as spouse.

What a tragedy..very very sad and dissappointed to hear this news.It will be very difficult time for the entire family,my heart reaches out to them. I am sure the Fish tttruck would be an out state vehicle who ignore the traffic chaos that occur at Nanthoor junction especially when we have major highway development works.Tge Police needs to immediately action these outstation vehicles with regret i must say that every vehicle from Kerala especially students and Fish vehicles are very rash in their driving. This happen day in and day out.Of recently a spurt of KL vehicles are seen on the road. If you drove in Kasaragod area, you can actually see how recklessly and shamelessly they drive on the roads.I am NOT being prejudiced about Keralites at all. Please do not take ot personal ,but i request the Traffic police to immediately impound the licence of these drivers especially these KL registered vehicles.

"Nanthoor Junction has become a major death trap; no one comes forward to fix this accident spot, which is very sad. It is deeply painful to see such a beautiful young girl pass away at such a tender age. But what can we do? We all have to bow before God's will. May God give peace to her soul and strength to her family to bear the loss, that is our prayer.”
