KSRTC loses Rs 100 crore annually due to accidents

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Oct 22: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) incurs an annual loss of Rs 100 crore due to accidents and related issues, according to KSRTC managing director Anbu Kumar.

KSRTC is looking to emulate the accident-prevention measures of companies like HPCL and BPCL, which manage 24,000 trucks with fewer accidents, while KSRTC operates 8,000 buses daily and records an average of one accident per day, some of which are fatal.

"KSRTC loses Rs 100 crore annually due to accidents and associated costs such as compensation to victims, medical expenses, and repair of damaged buses," said Anbu Kumar in a media interaction.

Anbu Kumar recently visited HPCL and BPCL to gain insights into their accident prevention strategies. "We already have measures in place to prevent accidents, but we aim to learn from HPCL and BPCL to reduce accident rates. We intend to implement similar strategies in KSRTC," he added.

In the 2022-23 period, KSRTC recorded 770 accidents, with 231 of them involving fatalities. There were 89 major accidents and 450 minor ones, resulting in 1,323 injuries. In 2021-22, 494 accidents were reported, including 153 fatalities, 55 major accidents, and 286 minor accidents, with 656 people injured.

KSRTC is planning to invite experts from oil corporations to help improve its operations and reduce accidents.

Your ksrtc sarige bus drivers drive as though it's their last day on earth. They overtake even after seeing on coming vehicle. If they were to drive carefully like how the drivers drive airavaat buses then accidents would definitely reduce drastically.

As a percentage of revenue (not profit) that is roughly ~5~8%. Yes, KSRTC has many loss years. But still, no state has bus service like Karnataka. For this reason alone, we should stay steadfastly behind KSRTC. KSRTC should have a graded (with proper/practical best practices in place) reduction of accidents from current 5% to say under 0.5%.

Most of the accidents are due to reckless driving by DRIVERS. Passengers safety and road users safety is not considered by these rogue drivers. Heavy metal body so they drive fast and without proper safety of road users so causing accidents. Material loss and specially personal loss is for other smaller vehicle drivers, bikes and pedestrians. Bus drivers feels that they own roads and have license to drive as they wish. Finally Government (Public) MONEY has been used to pay compensation!!!

We have space technology to build puddle prone, pathetic roads across the nation, costing billions of tax payers money, loosing lakhs of precious life every year. We can add similarly, 10yr project to build one pumpwell bridge too. Lucky, its not built in Bihar, otherwise, it would have washed away with rains too, like dozens this year alone. Politicians mint money year after year, adding toll gates one after the other. KSRTC alone losing 100cr in accidents, shows the monitory loss of just one public transport company. Public awareness and intelligence is important in a democracy. When we are electing leaders who are busy looting nation what to expect better. Maharashtra elections are coming up and crores of money already started moving around. End of the day, its not charity right?

Losses are not due to accidents. It is because of the females going around bitchingly FREE for prostitution.
