Kasargod, June 25: Manjeshwar police have arrested one of the two accused involved in a daring daylight chain-snatching incident in which a woman was robbed of her two-sovereign gold chain. The second accused remains absconding.

The arrested accused has been identified as A Sandeep (31), a resident of Bambrana in Kumble.

The incident occurred on Monday evening near Hosangadi.

According to police, the two accused arrived on a scooter and approached Nayana, a resident of Bayikatte in Paivalike, under the guise of seeking directions. While engaging her in conversation, they allegedly snatched the two-sovereign gold chain from her neck and sped away from the spot.

Following a complaint lodged by the victim, Manjeshwar police registered a case and launched an investigation. Acting on leads gathered from CCTV footage and other intelligence inputs, investigators succeeded in tracing and arresting one of the accused.

Police have intensified efforts to track down the second accused, who is still at large. A search is also under way to recover the stolen gold chain and locate the scooter allegedly used in the commission of the crime.
