Mangaluru, Oct 25: A cyber harassment case took a serious turn when a young woman attempted suicide following alleged online threats and harassment.

Kumari Gowthami, a resident of Mangaluru’s Madhya village, reported to Surathkal Police on October 22 that her Facebook account had been hacked. She stated that obscene and threatening messages were sent from her account to her brother Kishan and his friend Harshit. She identified Sharik, a resident of Iddya village, as the alleged sender.

Upon receiving her complaint, Surathkal Police registered case No. 123/24 under IPC Sections 78, 352, 351, and IT Act Sections 66C, 66D, and 67A & B. Police summoned Sharik for questioning and reviewed his mobile phone and social media activity.

Initial investigations did not yield substantial information, prompting authorities to seek additional data from the concerned social media service providers.

The case escalated on October 24, when Gowthami allegedly received another threatening message, which reportedly affected her mental well-being. In a distressed state, she wrote a note attributing her harassment to Sharik and his mother, Noor Jahan, and subsequently tried to end her life on October 25 by consuming ten Dolo tablets. She was then rushed to Father Muller Hospital, where her condition has since stabilised.

Following this incident, Gowthami disclosed her fears regarding Sharik’s continued harassment. Acting on her statement, Surathkal Police registered another case, numbered 125/24, under IPC sections 78(1)(i), 351(1 & 2), and 3(5).

Sharik has been taken into custody, and investigation is underway.

Suicide is not the solution to harassments... One must fight it out boldly... nowadays people know about social media frauds and scams... So there is nothing to fear if at all fb account is hacked... Inform near ones and lodge a complaint... Luckily she survived... Paracetamol doesn't kill suddenly but will shatter the liver and the death is very painful unless medically induced flushing is carried out within golden hour...

It seems to be a cooked up story. Facebook account is difficult to hack ( by a person like Sharik) and by the way how did she identify it was Sharik...Daal Me Kuch Kaala Hai....

This Sharik and his mother, Noor Jahan, are shame to the society. They don't have any respect to their holy religious book. Before cleaning Ganga or Yamuna you clean this first. Then only the society will be in peace.
