Karkala, Oct 28: Dilip Hegde, the accused in the murder of Balakrishna Poojary at Depputtelu in Ajekaru, Marne village, was presented before the Karkala court on Monday. The court ordered judicial custody for the accused until Nov 7.
Dilip Hegde allegedly conspired with Pratima, the wife of the deceased Balakrishna Poojary, and carried out the murder late on Oct 20 at the victim's home. Pratima is already in judicial custody, while Hegde, who had been in police custody, was presented before the Karkala court on Monday evening. Following the court’s direction, he was taken to the Hiriyadka sub-jail in Udupi.
Pratima’s brother had initially alerted the police about the suspicious nature of Balakrishna Poojary's death, suspecting his sister’s involvement. This led the Ajekaru police to investigate, resulting in the arrest of the accused.
Pratima allegedly incited Balakrishna Poojary to consume poison and admitted him to the hospital. After undergoing treatment at emergency units in prominent hospitals in Manipal, Mangaluru, and Bengaluru, Poojary showed signs of recovery and returned home.
The medical expenses for his treatment were borne by Pratima’s brother, Sandeep Poojary, who brought him back home. However, soon after, Pratima and her lover Dilip Hegde allegedly suffocated Balakrishna Poojary, committing the murder in a brutal manner.
Balakrishna’s friend and brother-in-law, Sandeep Poojary, who has been fighting for justice, appeared in court demanding strict punishment for his sister Pratima and her lover Hegde. His tearful plea in the court premises reflected his determination to ensure justice for his late brother-in-law.
