Karkala: Merchant Drowns in River

Karkala, Dec 7: Deepak Alva (55), a merchant from Kudi in Hiriyadka in the taluk, drowned in River Sita on Tuesday December 6.

Alva had come to Nadpal Bandimutt along with four friends, to enjoy the day, as his shop was closed.  He did not know how to swim. Alva adventurously moved ahead in river water, turning a deaf ear to the repeated warnings of his friends, who knew he could not swim. Even as they were shouting at him to return, he moved ahead and drowned all of a sudden, the friends said.

A case of unnatural death was registered in Hebri police station in this connection. Station house officer, Santosh Shetty, has begun investigation.
