Bengaluru, Nov 4: Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC Chief D K Shivakumar said performance is the basis for the people to elect their representatives and not on the basis of skills in playing ‘political chess game’.
“All those who think they are smart and clever because of their strategies and in playing political chess game are doomed,” he said while speaking to media persons near his residence before leaving for Channapatna for campaigning on behalf of Congress candidate C P Yogeshwar.
Shivakumar said Congress candidate Yogeshwar, who had won from Channapatna five times despite changing parties and now on Congress ticket after resigning as BJP MLC, said: “The people will rate the work of DK Suresh, CP Yogeshwar and Kumaraswamy in this election. This is not a battlefield, but a platform where people will rank the candidates on their performance.”
He said, in a democracy, what matters is the work done by the leaders. “People decide the winner on the basis of their work and not by anything else,” he said.
Asked about celebrities demanding grants for Jayanagar assembly constituency, he said, “I know about the demand. We have already given an allocation of Rs 40 crore to Jayanagar. The Jayanagar MLA met me and I have answered his questions. I will talk about it once I visit the constituency.”
Responding to a question on BJP’s protest on Waqf, he said, “BJP is not protesting but are doing politics.”
Referring at to the joint campaigns of R Ashok, CT Ravi and Kumaraswamy in Channapatna, he quipped, “JDS did not support BJP’s Mysuru Chalo padayatra. The BJP has to at least support the JDS.”
