Mangaluru, Nov 7: MLC Ivan D'Souza criticized the BJP for being an ineffective opposition in Karnataka, labelling their actions as disappointing.
Addressing the media on Thursday, November 7, D'Souza commented, "Chief minister Siddaramaiah has fully cooperated with the Lokayukta police investigation, yet the BJP dismisses this as mere drama or an eye-wash."
He argued that the BJP's remarks reflect a lack of confidence in the state’s investigative agencies and the Lokayukta. "If the BJP truly respected the court’s decision, why did they welcome it while expecting the chief minister to resign?" he asked, questioning BJP state president Vijayendra on this stance.
He further noted, "When allegations surfaced against B S Yediyurappa, he did not resign immediately; he stepped down only later. During the BJP’s rule, Lokayukta investigations often resulted in clean chits, were those inquiries invalid?" He emphasized that the opposition should respect democratic mandates and uphold the Constitution.
As three by-elections approach, the MLC accused the BJP of spreading misinformation. "The BJP is the most disappointing opposition. Their statements lack credibility and willpower; it’s a hit-and-run approach," he remarked.
Addressing the BJP’s position on the Wakf issue, he pointed out, "In their 2014 manifesto, the BJP promised to strengthen the Wakf Board with input from religious leaders and address encroachments. Should they not be held accountable for this commitment?"
