Dharamsala, Dec 10 (IANS): The Dalai Lama will be among those who will speak on human rights in Asia in Prague Sunday, a Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) official said Saturday.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama will speak on 'Democracy and human rights in Asia' at a roundtable conference, the official told IANS.

He said the conference would commemorate the first anniversary of Nobel Peace Prize to Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo. "The conference will focus on the current state of democracy and human rights in Asia," he added.

Former Czech Republic president Václav Havel, former French foreign minister Bernard Kouchner and Nobel laureate Shirin Ebadi are among those who will address the conference.

This will be the ninth visit of the Dalai Lama to Czech Republic.

The Buddhist monk, known for his trademark maroon robes, has been asking China to review its repressive policies against the people in Tibet.

During his visit to Japan last month, the Dalai Lama said: "Prime Minister Wen Jiabao said publicly that China needs political reform and western style of democracy. The Chinese leadership should seriously think about it. The time of using force is gone and outdated."

The Dalai Lama, along with many of his supporters, fled Tibet and took refuge in India when Chinese troops moved in and took control of Lhasa in 1959. His Tibetan government-in-exile that never won recognition from any country is based in the north Indian hill town.
