Kundapur, Nov 10: Renowned Kannada scholar Prof Krishne Gowda was honoured with the prestigious Karanth Huttoora Award on Sunday, November 10, marking the 20th anniversary of the award and Dr Kota Shivaram Karanth’s birth anniversary.
The event, held at the Karanth Theme Park in Kotattettu, celebrated the legendary writer's contributions to Kannada literature and culture.
Speaking after receiving the award, Prof Gowda expressed deep gratitude, stating, "Receiving this award in Karanth's birthplace is a moment of immense honour. It has elevated my respect for him to new heights."
He described Karanth as a literary giant with a multifaceted intellect whose works continue to inspire generations. "Dr Karanth's novels offered an authentic portrayal of life, and it is rare to find a writer of his caliber. His legacy is truly unmatched," he added.
Meghalaya Governor C H Vijay Shankar, who presented the award, praised Dr Karanth’s enduring impact, calling his knowledge and literary contributions "eternal." He noted that being in Karanth’s birthplace was a privilege, adding, "The Karanth Huttoora Award is a model of excellence in governance, and this recognition is special not only for Karnataka but for all of India."
The ceremony also featured the felicitation of exceptional Grama Panchayats from the undivided districts, which received the Karanth Special Award for their outstanding achievements.
In addition to Prof Gowda, key dignitaries at the event included Kundapura MLA Kiran Kumar Kodgi, Kapu MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty, sub-divisional officer Maheshwandra, and other prominent leaders.
The event was inaugurated by MLA Kodgi, with Anand C Kundar, chairman of the Karanth Huttoora Award Foundation, delivering the welcome address.
The award presentation was followed by speeches from MP Kota Srinivas Poojary and various other dignitaries. The ceremony was anchored by Narendra Kumar, the foundation’s secretary, and concluded with a vote of thanks from Shailaja, the theme park librarian.
