Mangaluru, Nov 12: Rang Tarang Madanthyar clinched victory in the maiden edition of the prestigious ‘Pepere Pepe Dum’ brass band competition, held on November 9-10 at Kelarai Church Ground.
The grand finale featured electrifying performances from five finalists: Rang Tarang Madanthyar, Omzoorche Dinde Manay, Kelraiche Kazulle, Neermarchim Taram, and Dum Dum Bajpe. The event attracted a large crowd, who enjoyed the vibrant brass band music, traditional country dances, and indulged in coastal delicacies, while also visiting book stalls and antique galleries.
Organized by 'Ami Ani Amchi', a prominent cultural group, in association with Daijiworld TV, the competition saw participation from 20 renowned brass band teams across coastal Karnataka.
The winning team was originally set to receive a cash prize of Rs 1 lac, with Rs 20,000 for each of the four runner-up teams. However, NRI entrepreneur and philanthropist Dr Ronald Colaco, who was present at the event, doubled the prize money, awarding Rs 2 lac to the champions and Rs 1 lac each to the runners-up, in recognition of their outstanding performances.
Earlier in the day, Dr Ronald Colaco presented the ‘Dr Ronald Colaco Samarasya Award – 2024’ to Pattadhyaksharu Sri Panditaradhya Shivacharya Swamiji of Sanehalli Hosadurga Math, acknowledging his tireless contributions to unity, education, and social welfare. Dr Colaco also highlighted the importance of events like ‘Pepere Pepe Dum’ in preserving and celebrating the rich tradition of brass band music, ensuring its legacy for future generations.
