Mangaluru, Nov 12: The "Melange 2k24 Ethnic Day" celebration held at St Agnes PU College on November 9, was a captivating journey through India’s vibrant cultural tapestry, celebrating the nation’s unity in diversity. Opening with a soulful prayer song and a warm welcome by Divisha, the programme set an inviting tone for a day filled with rich cultural expressions.
The highlight of the event was a series of traditional dance performances, each representing a different Indian state. Students gracefully embodied the classical beauty of Tamil Nadu’s Bharatanatyam, the refined elegance of Kashmir’s folk dances, and the rhythmic energy of Maharashtra’s Laavani. Other performances included the lively Dandiya from Gujarat, the spirited movements of Punjab, the distinct bamboo dance from Manipur, and the unique folk expressions of Kerala and Goa. Dressed in traditional attire, the performers brought authenticity and colour to each segment, offering the audience a vivid glimpse into the heritage of these regions.
The programme’s musical interludes added further depth to the celebration, with a Qawwali performance that echoed the soulful strains of Sufi tradition, a lively Hindi jugalbandi by Shreya and Saanvi, and a medley of Hindi, Konkani, and Kannada folk songs. Each performance was a reminder of India’s linguistic and musical diversity, resonating with the audience and weaving a rich auditory tapestry that complemented the visual spectacle.
Adding a modern touch, carefully curated videos showcased the cultural heritage and tourism landscapes of various states, including Bihar, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, and West Bengal. These visuals highlighted each state’s historical sites, scenic beauty, and unique traditions, emphasizing the significance of cultural tourism in preserving and celebrating India’s heritage.
Guided by convenors Venitia Rasquinha and Anusha, with seamless execution supported by the student cabinet, the programme ran flawlessly. Compères Kadija Sahla and Fathima Zahra guided the event with poise, ensuring smooth transitions between performances, while Anjali offered a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing appreciation for the efforts of everyone involved.
The event was graced by the vice-principal Sr Janet Sequeira, faculty and the students and was much appreciated.
"Melange 2k24" was more than just an event; it was a vibrant tribute to India’s cultural richness and diversity, leaving the audience with a renewed appreciation for the country’s heritage and unity.
