Udupi: Hit-and-run case – Cong leader's son arrested for causing auto driver's death

Udupi, Nov 17: The Shirva police have arrested Prajwal Shetty, son of Congress leader Deviprasad Shetty from Belapu, in connection with a hit-and-run incident that occurred on November 13 at around 5 am, leading to the death of an auto driver, Muhammad Hussain. The accident took place in the Military Colony area of Belapu in the Kaup taluk of Udupi district.

According to reports, Hussain was riding his two-wheeler from Punchalkadu to Belapu early that morning. As he neared Maria Bakery, an unidentified vehicle, driven at high speed and in a reckless manner, collided with his two-wheeler. The impact left Hussain with severe injuries to his leg, hand, and head. He was initially taken to the government hospital in Ajjarkad and subsequently transferred to KMC Hospital, Manipal, for further treatment.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene without assisting the injured or reporting the incident to the police. CCTV footage capturing the seriousness of the accident was later obtained, aiding in the investigation. A complaint was registered at the Shirva police station, prompting swift action by the police.

Prajwal Shetty, who had been absconding since the incident, was eventually apprehended by the Shirva police. Investigations into the case are ongoing.
