Udupi, Nov 18: Young Catholic Students (YCS) Udupi diocese successfully organized its annual diocesan convention, ‘Ekthar,’ on November 17, at the Mount Rosary Church Hall, Santhekatte Kallianpur.
The convention began with an inspiring spiritual session led by Fr Denis D’Sa, the PRO of the diocese and parish priest of Thottam. Fr Denis D'Sa shared insightful stories and reflections, igniting the participants’ faith on the topic ‘The importance of spirituality’.
The inaugural Mass was celebrated by Fr Denis D’Sa, with Fr Steven Fernandes and Dn Valesh concelebrating the holy eucharist.
A series of engaging competitions followed, including best out of waste, brain battle, photography, and Konkani voviyo-vers. These competitions fostered teamwork, creativity, and a spirit of healthy competition among the participants.
The valedictory programme was graced by the presence of Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi, as the president of the programme. In his message he emphasized on the role of youth in civil services. Fr Roque D'Souza was the chief guest of the programme. The lay representatives of Mount Rosary Church, Santhekatte, also attended the event.
The programme honored the YCS units, deanery directors, animators, and sponsors for their invaluable contributions. A special celebration was held to commemorate the 75th birthday of Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo.
YCS diocesan animators, Melwyn Castelino, Jeneview D’Silva, Mount Rosary Church PPC secretary Priya Furtado and pastoral commission coordinator Daisy Mendonca were present on the dais, along with YCS national president Anson Nazareth.
YCS regional coordinator Briston Rodrigues, YCS regional leaders Jiya Cutinha and Flavian Mendonca, and ICYM Udupi diocese central council members were present for the programme.
Fr Steven Fernandes, the director of YCS YSM Udupi diocese, expressed his gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the event. Joshua Fernandes and Prishel delivered the vote of thanks, and Melisha Noronha concluded the programme.
The convention brought together over 650 participants from across the diocese, showcasing the unity and growth of the young Catholic community in the diocese.
